How often exchanges settle funding

Eight hours is no longer the universal rule. Below is the interval split per venue and the settlement grid, computed from live data.

Venues without a confirmed interval: HTX, MEXC, HYPERLIQUID. Missing data does not mean there is no funding there — we simply have not confirmed the period, and we deliberately do not default to eight hours.

A funding rate is not comparable across venues on its own: 0.01% every four hours costs twice as much as 0.01% every eight. To compare venues you first need the settlement period — and it stopped being uniform a while ago.

We poll the period for every pair hourly, because rate normalisation in the funding screener depends on it. This page publishes that same dataset in full.

The grid in the last column is for the interval that dominates on that venue. KuCoin is offset from the rest: it settles at 04:00, 12:00 and 20:00 UTC.

How to use this

Compare rates on one basis

Before calling one venue more expensive than another, bring both rates to a common period. A rate on a four-hour period equals twice as much on an eight-hour one.

Time entries against the grid

A position opened a minute before settlement pays the full funding. The UTC grid shows when that happens on your venue.

Mind mixed periods in arbitrage

Two legs on venues with different periods pay on different schedules, and matching rates on paper do not mean matching payments.

Do not fill in the blanks

A venue absent from the table has no confirmed period. We do not default it to eight hours, and neither should you.

FAQ

Is funding not settled every 8 hours?
It used to be. Four-hour settlement is now at least as common as eight-hour, and some pairs settle hourly. The exact split is in the table above and is recomputed from live data.
Why are some exchanges missing?
The table lists venues whose period we have confirmed. The rest are named in a separate line below it: missing data is missing data, not a silent default of eight hours.
How fresh is this?
The period for every pair is polled hourly; the page is served from a five-minute cache. Quote age is shown above the table.
Why do you collect this?
The funding screener normalises rates from different venues to a common eight-hour basis, which is impossible without the period. This page shows the dataset that makes it work.
