MACD line above zero — a pullback inside a rally is likely; below zero — momentum confirms the decline

What it means

Momentum has turned down. Like the bullish state, MACD is more sensitive than moving averages: it flags the turn before the averages confirm it.

Common mistakes

  • A bearish histogram in a strong trend often turns out to be a pause, not a reversal
  • Ignoring the zone relative to zero strips the signal of half its meaning
