Funding: compare different intervals
Eight-hour normalization, unknown intervals and funding calculator assumptions.
Check the period first
Identical funding percentages can represent different settlement frequencies. To compare rates, identify each interval first. We will review where the site shows intervals, convert a simple example to a common basis and discuss missing data. This is a comparison of rate arithmetic, without predicting that rates will persist or choosing a trade.
Where to look
Open the funding-interval page. It shows the known distribution of intervals by venue and a calculated settlement grid in coordinated universal time. The summary is useful context, but does not replace checking a specific pair. Contracts on one exchange can use different intervals. For the pair you need, review the available site data and the venue’s own terms.
Four versus eight hours
Take zero point zero one percent per four hours and the same percentage per eight hours. Express both on an eight-hour basis: multiply the rate by eight and divide by its interval in hours. The first becomes zero point zero two percent; the second remains zero point zero one. This is a comparable arithmetic basis assuming an unchanged rate, not two confirmed future settlements.
Unknown intervals
If the interval is unconfirmed, do not assume eight hours. Missing data do not mean a zero rate or no funding. Without the interval, you cannot correctly convert the rate to a common basis. A calculated grid is not a promise of an exact future debit either. Check the venue’s terms for the specific contract, especially when data are missing or have changed.
The calculator and assumptions
For a separate calculation, open the funding calculator and explicitly enter the rate, interval, duration and position size. Change only the interval to see how the arithmetic changes. The calculator uses your assumptions. A daily or annualized figure does not guarantee that payment: the rate and position value can change, and other costs must be assessed separately.
Return to the screener
Before configuring notifications, review the pair, venue, interval and data time. The funding screener’s positive and negative thresholds refer to the rate for the venue’s own interval. Cross-exchange spreads use an eight-hour basis. Do not automatically copy an eight-hour-equivalent value into that field. Comparing intervals helps you interpret the data correctly. Use that distinction when choosing search conditions and available venues for your task.
