How to configure the open-interest screener

Set the change threshold, interval, minimum open interest, turnover and repeat controls step by step.

Find changes in open interest

Want to notice coins where open interest is rising quickly? We will configure that search, set a change threshold and interval, narrow the pairs with filters and check how often the conditions matched. Open interest describes outstanding derivatives positions. An increase alone does not indicate the direction of the next price move. We are finding a change in one metric so that we can review the market context separately.

Change and interval

Open the open-interest screener. Start with a basic percentage condition: a rise of at least five percent over fifteen minutes. Keep the additional scenarios off so that the matching rule is clear. If open interest was ten million dollars at the start of the window and is ten and a half million now, it has increased by five percent. Both settings matter: the size of the change and the time over which it happened. The same five percent over a different interval describes a different pace of change.

Change versus minimum size

Now add a minimum open interest of ten million dollars. This is a different condition. Five percent defines the change, while ten million sets a minimum size for the pair's open interest. A rise from one million to one million and fifty thousand dollars is also five percent. But that pair would fail our minimum open-interest filter. Next, add daily turnover of at least five million dollars. Turnover is a separate filter; it is not the same as open interest. These numbers illustrate the mechanics. Choose your own limits for your task.

Conditions and repeats

The form offers additional conditions, including an absolute dollar change, an unusual move and divergence from price. Leave them off while you check a clear basic search. The dollar-change threshold also differs from minimum open interest: it describes an increase over the interval. For repeated notifications about one coin, choose a fifteen-minute pause. That does not promise another message exactly fifteen minutes later; the conditions must match again. A notification count limit over a period is a separate control. Check both fields so that repeat frequency and the overall limit remain distinct.

Check and save

Check the selected venues and coin restrictions. Open interest belongs to derivatives markets; do not expect a spot market to provide this metric. If a history check is available in the form, run it and review the actual period, repeats and number of matching coins. This checks match frequency, not profitability. If matches are too frequent, change one parameter and compare the result. Then check the connected notification method and save the settings.

Review the match

A notification means open interest changed according to your rule and the pair passed the filters. It does not mean everybody is buying: a contract has two sides. Open the chart and review price and context on the same venue. For a first setup, use a clear condition and a notification flow you can follow. Add more complex scenarios when you can explain what task each one serves.
