Setting up the Price Screener

The price screener watches quotes across thousands of pairs and sends a notification once the price has moved by a set percentage within a set time. Below is a walkthrough of every field. The description is on the left, the form itself on the right: click any item and the matching field lights up.

One thing to understand before you start: each scenario works independently. Turn on three of them and a notification arrives when any one fires. That is what separates the price screener from the custom one, where every condition has to be met at once.

Unusual move for this coin

Fires not on "moved N%" but on "N times larger than this coin normally moves". One threshold is equally correct on bitcoin and on a thin alt. Works together with the percentage threshold, not instead of it: a move must pass both.

Limits

Cap how often the screener may fire on a single coin

When on, limits how many alerts the same coin can generate, so you do not get dozens of notifications about the same move.

Adjust to the market

The screener moves the value within your range on its own: when alerts are too frequent — toward the top, when there are almost none — toward the bottom. Recomputed once a day from your alert flow. Your numbers stay as you set them; the value in effect is always shown here.

Narrow what counts as a hit

Price screener trigger scenarios

A scenario is a pair: how many percent, and over what window. Three percent in five minutes and three percent in four hours are events of completely different weight — the first is a sharp impulse, the second a quiet drift you would notice without a screener anyway.

The last two scenarios have no fields: breaking the 24-hour high or low is a fact, not a threshold. The screener compares the current price with the edge of the 24-hour range and fires the moment it is renewed.

Limits: how many price alerts you are willing to read

A strong move is rarely a single jump. A coin that moved three percent in five minutes usually does it again a minute later — and again. Without limits that one coin produces dozens of notifications in a row, and everything else drowns behind them.

Filters: which coins to measure price moves on

The most common disappointment for a newcomer is a stream of alerts on coins they have never heard of. On a thin market five percent costs less than a cup of coffee — a single order makes the move. Liquidity filters cut exactly that noise.

Logic: Find the earliest fast moves in time to enter at the beginning of a trend. The $10m turnover floor filters out thin pairs, where a 4% jump means nothing.

Logic: A sharp drop in a liquid coin may be an oversold condition — worth looking for a bounce entry.

Logic: edge-triggered alert the moment price tags the 24-hour high or low — independent of pump/dump windows. Useful for level-based swing trading and for shorting exhausted moves. Liquid coins only.

Any set is a starting point, not a recommendation. Once applied the thresholds are yours: move them and the screener starts counting the new way immediately.

Common mistakes when setting up the price screener

A threshold set too low. One percent in five minutes is something half the market does on an ordinary day. That screener sends hundreds of notifications, and people stop reading them on day two.

A threshold with no liquidity filter. The setup looks strict, yet fires on thin pairs where such a move means nothing.

Limits switched off. The pause between alerts and the per-coin cap are not a way to cripple the screener — they are the only way to see different coins in your list instead of the same one.
