Setting up the price screener

Every minute the price screener compares the current price with the price N minutes ago and sends an alert once the difference clears your threshold. You never pick a coin: it watches every pair on your connected venues at once. Below is a walkthrough of every field — click an item and it lights up in the form.

In short

The screener compares the price now with the price N minutes ago. If the difference clears your threshold, an alert goes out. The path between those two points is ignored.
A scenario is a pair of numbers: how many percent, and over what window. Scenarios are independent: an alert arrives when any one of them fires.
Limits and filters decide whether you see different coins or the same one. Without them a single trending coin fills the whole list.

Unusual move for this coin

Fires not on "moved N%" but on "N times larger than this coin normally moves". One threshold is equally correct on bitcoin and on a thin alt. Works together with the percentage threshold, not instead of it: a move must pass both.

Cap how often the screener may fire on a single coin

When on, limits how many alerts the same coin can generate, so you do not get dozens of notifications about the same move.

Adjust to the market

The screener moves the value within your range on its own: when alerts are too frequent — toward the top, when there are almost none — toward the bottom. Recomputed once a day from your alert flow. Your numbers stay as you set them; the value in effect is always shown here.

Narrow what counts as a hit

Price screener trigger scenarios

Scenarios are independent. Turn on three and an alert arrives when any one of them fires. That is what separates the price screener from the custom one, where every condition you enable has to be met at once.

A scenario itself is a pair of numbers: how many percent, and over what window. The same value on different windows describes completely different events, so the window is what you are really choosing:

The two breakout scenarios have no fields: renewing the 24-hour high or low is a fact, not a threshold. The screener compares the price with the venue’s 24-hour range and fires the moment it steps outside.

After such an alert the screener goes quiet on that coin and that side until the price retreats a percent from the level it fired at, or until half an hour passes with no new extreme. Otherwise a run of consecutive new highs would produce a run of identical messages.

The last scenario, “an unusual move for this coin”, is not a threshold: it is a filter on top of the first scenario. A move has to clear both the percentage threshold and the “how many times stronger than usual” bar for that pair on that venue.

Limits: how many price alerts you are willing to read

One move gives one alert: the screener fires at the moment the threshold is crossed, not every minute while the change over the window stays above it. But a coin in a strong trend clears the threshold again on every new window — and takes over the whole list.

Filters: which coins to measure price moves on

The most common disappointment for a newcomer is a stream of alerts on coins they have never heard of. The turnover floor is measured in millions of dollars a day, and the arithmetic is plain: $10m a day is roughly $7k a minute. On a pair like that a single order can make the move.

The minimum open interest hides one trap. Open interest exists only on futures, so this floor combined with the spot-only market filter discards every spot pair and the screener stays silent. Leave it at zero when you want spot.

Logic: the fastest price moves — a 4% rise within five minutes. The $10m turnover floor filters out thin pairs, where a 4% jump means nothing. At most two alerts per coin an hour, so one move does not turn into a series.

Logic: a strong one-hour rise on liquid coins — turnover from $50M, spot and futures. The threshold is 10%, not 15%: at 15% the preset fired too rarely and noticed moves after they were over. At most three alerts per coin in six hours.

Logic: a sharp price drop — 7% within half an hour, only on coins with turnover from $10M. The alert tells you one thing: price fell fast. Whether it is oversold or the start of a longer decline is for the chart, and the decision is yours.

Logic: an alert the moment price touches the 24-hour high or low — independent of the pump and dump windows. The $50M turnover floor is there because on a thin pair a single order often pushes price past the daily boundary, not the market.

Any set is a starting point, not a recommendation. Once applied the thresholds are yours: move them and the screener starts counting the new way immediately.

Common mistakes when setting up the price screener

A threshold too low for a short window. One percent in five minutes is the ordinary noise of a liquid pair, not an event. That screener sends alerts in a stream, and people stop reading them on day two.

A threshold with no liquidity filter. The setup looks strict, yet fires on thin pairs where the move means nothing.

A scenario switched on with an empty field. Fill in both the percentage and the interval. With the screener enabled, an incomplete pair will not save: a field message shows what is missing.

Limits switched off. The pause and the per-coin cap are not a way to cripple the screener — they are the only way to see different coins in your list.

Price screener setup FAQ

Which interval should I pick for the price screener?

The choice runs from 1 minute to 4 hours. A short window catches the impulse, a long one catches accumulated movement you would spot on the chart anyway. The ready-made setups use +4% in 5 minutes for fast moves and +10% in an hour for strong ones — workable starting points to move from.

What happens if I leave the percent or the interval empty?

If the screener is enabled and only one of the two fields is filled, the settings will not save: a field message explains what is missing. Set both the percentage and the interval for a working scenario. If both fields are empty, that scenario is not used. When the screener is disabled, you can save an incomplete draft.

How do I set up an alert for a price drop?

There is a separate “dump” scenario for that. You enter its percentage as a positive number and the screener measures the fall: 5 means “down 5% or more”. No minus sign is needed in the growth field — the growth scenario only measures moves upward.

Why am I getting too many alerts?

Three causes, in order of frequency: the threshold is too low for the window; no minimum daily turnover is set, so thin pairs fire; limits are off, so one trending coin clears the threshold again on every new window. Raise the threshold, set turnover from $10m, and switch on the pause between alerts.

Why is the price screener silent?

Either the threshold is large for the window (5% in a minute is a rare event), or the filters drop almost everything. One special case: a minimum open interest combined with the spot-only market filter. Spot has no open interest at all, so that filter discards every spot pair.

Why bother with limits if one move already gives one alert?

The screener fires at the moment the threshold is crossed, not every minute while the change over the window stays above it. But a coin in a strong trend crosses the threshold again — on the next window, and the one after. Limits exist for exactly that case.

How is the alert limit different from the pause?

The limit counts units: no more than N alerts per coin over a period. The pause sets the minimum gap between alerts on one coin. The limit caps the total, the pause caps the tempo; they work independently and you can use both.
